A client of this Information Technology Company for funerary services offers a self-service obituary platform that lacked the functionality to capture structured event details, such as funeral or memorial services, during obituary submissions. Although users usually included this information in the freeform text, the system could not interpret or extract this data efficiently. This limitation diminished the customer experience but also constrained the platform’s functionality and left revenue opportunities on the table.

To improve the user experience in their self-service platform, we worked to deploy a generative AI-powered obituary conversion tool. This innovative engine transforms text into structured data and closes the gap by automatically identifying event-related elements and populating fields like data, time, and location, at scale. The AI engine enriches incomplete information by querying a location database to fill in missing geographic information. As a result, this has:
- Boosted the percentage of obituaries featuring structured event data, creating opportunities for innovative features and monetization.
- Enhanced data quality and user satisfaction through streamlined automation.
- Supported a $58K project with the capability to significantly increase obituary-related revenue by enabling advanced services tied to structured events.
